University of Glasgow

University of Glasgow

Saturday, 30th of December, after visiting the city with my classmates, teachers and the tour guide, we went to the University of Glasgow. It is one of the most beautiful and artistically maintained universities that I have ever seen. At first we started from the Museum inside it and then we toured the structure which is huge. We went outside the university to look at its architectural structure. Finally we went at the university gift shop where there were many gadgets and clothes with the university's logo.
It was one of the most beautiful and interesting visits that we have done so far.

Things to know:
The University of Glasgow is a public research University in Glasgow, Scotland. Founded by papal bull in 1451, it is the fourth-oldest university in the English-speaking world and one of Scotland's four ancient universities. Along with the universities of Edinburgh, Aberdeen, and St Andrews, the university was part of the Scottish Enlightenment during the 18th century.
In common with universities of the pre-modern era, Glasgow originally educated students primarily from wealthy backgrounds, however, it became a pioneer in British higher education in the 19th century by also providing for the needs of students from the growing urban and commercial middle class. Glasgow University served all of these students by preparing them for professions: the law, medicine, civil service, teaching, and the church. It also trained smaller but growing numbers for careers in science and engineering. The annual income of the institution for 2017–18 was £626.5 million of which £180.8 million was from research grants and contracts, with an expenditure of £610.1 million. It is a member of Universitas 21, the Russell Group and the Guild of European Research-Intensive Universities.
The university was originally located in the city's High Street; since 1870, its main campus has been at Gilmorehill in the City's West End. Additionally, a number of university buildings are located elsewhere, such as the Veterinary School in Bearsden, and the Crichton Campus in Dumfries.
Alumni or former staff of the university include James Wilson (a founding father of the United States), philosopher Francis Hutcheson, engineer James Watt, philosopher and economist Adam Smith, physicist Lord Kelvin, surgeon Joseph Lister, seven Nobel laureates, and three British Prime Ministers.

A Very Special Day

O n Friday 30th November we had an exciting afternoon at the University of Glasgow, one of the most beautiful buildings in the city, since 1451(year of its foundation). Inside the building there's a History and Science Museum called the Hunterian Museum in which there were a lot of interesting objects and historical remains from different times in history such as old roman shoes and stuffed animals  including internal organs!! This place is worth the visit.
On 27th of November some students of my school and I left Rome to land to Glasgow in order to participate to a European project concerning the Europen citizenship and the English language. For the next three weeks we will attend an English language course in the city centre of Glasgow. This photo was taken at the very moment we arrived in Edinburgh. Look at the huge capital letters! We took a picture altogether after almost six hours of exhausting travelling.

Our trip to Scotland(1st day)

On the 27th November my English group and I left from Rome to Glasgow to participate to a European Project. Our trip lasted 6 hours - we had to take two flights - due to a stopover in Frankfurt where we stopped for 50 minutes. When we arrived in Glasgow it was colder than we expected, but luckily there was a bus waiting for us and we arrived to the hotel almost an hour later. A Foggy Day

When we got out of the hotel to go to school, this was the weather like that morning. I was really surprised also because temperature was -2 degrees! It was really cold during all the day and you can imagine our joy when we finally went back to the hotel after an entire day out.
On Sunday 1st  December my classmates and I visited one of the most fascinating attraction in Glasgow: The Science Museum. It wasn't the first time, I went there also last March, but I enjoyed the visit so much because I'm attending the last year of school in a Scientific Lyceum and I love everything related to science and subjects like that. After visiting the Museum, we assisted to a fantastic live show in the Glasgow Planetarium, a huge room in the museum dedicated to this kind of shows and in my opinion I can surely say that this was the most interesting part of our scientific journey in the museum because we experienced a fantastic half an hour in which we orbited around the space, passing from a planet to another one, listening to a detailed - and quite understandable - voice over commenting everything.
